Authorize.net is by far the most popular Gold Cart Gateway. From time to time a few of you have issues setting it up, or questions about how to use the settings. Please read below for a run down on these with some solutions. As always if any of you have any other questions relating to authorize.net then please leave a comment on this post and a support team member will be able to respond ASAP!

Common Problems

Incorrect Account information - You will be surprised how often this is the case. If you are having a problem then please recheck your account details. Then check them again.

To obtain your API Login ID:

  • Log into the Merchant Interface at https://secure.authorize.net
  • Select Settings under Account in the main menu on the left
  • Click API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Security Settings section
  • If you have not already obtained an API Login ID and Transaction Key for your account, you will need to enter the secret answer to the secret question you configured at account activation.
  • Click Submit.
  • The API Login ID for your account is displayed on the API Login ID and Transaction Key page.

To obtain a Transaction Key:

  • Log on to the Merchant Interface at https://secure.authorize.net
  • Select Settings under Account in the main menu on the left
  • Click API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Security Settings section
  • Enter the secret answer to the secret question you configured when you activated your user account
  • Click Submit
  • The Transaction Key for your account is displayed on a confirmation page.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to record your Transaction Key immediately in a secure manner or copy it immediately to a file in a secure location because it is not always visible in the Merchant Interface like the API Login ID. Once you navigate away from the confirmation page there will be no other way to access the Transaction Key in the Merchant Interface. You would have to generate a new Transaction Key.

The Account is not Authorized – Authorize.net requires that your live production account be authorized by them, If you have just singed up for this account or are having problems please check that it has been authorized by them.

Using Test Mode for non test accounts – Most of you will have live production accounts unless you asked Authorize.net specially for a test account. Only check the “test mode” box if you have a test account.

Common Questions

Trying to setup  authorize.net but befuddled by the settings?

You can find a very good run down on each setting at the authorize.net documentation page.

My checkout form has a select box before displaying the credit card forms, I don’t want to use e checks so how can I remove this option?

If you have this problem and are only going to be using the basic integration (don’t need E-checks, CIM) then the best way to get rid of this selection and just have the credit card form is to use the older Authorize.net 2.0

I use the original Authorize.net 2.0 gateway and there is a message saying its not going to be supported for much longer, whats this about?
If your using the older gateway you will see a warning about the gateway not going to be supported anymore as there is the new version. Don’t panic this gateway will still work and its not going to just be removed from the Gold Cart! However if this gateway stops working because Authorize.net change their API or code then this gateway will not undergo a rewrite we will only support the newest one past this point.

It’s still not working what should I do?
For those of you that know how you can debug the response that is returned from authorize.net this will provide you with an error code and an error message. You can then view what they mean over at authorize.net’s error code library

If you’re not a developer have followed all the steps above then we would suggest that you use your support token to contact premium support the staff there will be able to debug your gateway for you.
